Fridge Brilliance: Yuugi’s hair
I just realized something while I was researching Egyptian fashion for my independent study in costume design.
Egyptians of the noble classes wore wigs whenever possible, mostly for the reason that extravagant natural hair would only be tempting fate with lice. Also, the thick hair that was so effective at blocking the head from harmful sunrays would in turn get very hot indoors, not to mention the fact that it would be very difficult to manage from day to day. As such, being able to afford a wig - especially an extravagant one that defied most laws of physics applying to natural hair - was a status symbol of the higher classes in Egyptian society. No attempts were made to make a wig look at all natural.
It makes PERFECT sense, then, that Yugi’s hair is as wild as it is - it’s like a reference to the wild hairstyles worn as wigs by the ancient Egyptians!
